Tony Yang was just 16 years old when he took home the fifth prize at the 2015 Chopin Competition. His brand of Chopin combined nobility, drama, simplicity, and nostalgia.

The formula obviously worked because he became the youngest laureate of the competition ever. Of course, he’s not “only a Chopin pianist.” He loves Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert too. He is studying economics at Harvard University, but in his soul, he is still a pianist.

That pianistic soul permeates all of his interests, and he approaches them with the mindset of an artist. He grinned during his interview with Piano Street when discussing planetary science from that perspective.
